Children's access to digital technology

“We can’t ever forget that the Internet now is just a staid utility. The exciting platforms are software applications that are very, very simple.”
Mark Cuban

Children’s access to nowadays digital technology (computers, tablets, smart phones etc) represents a long debated subject by specialists and a challenge parents are facing. We leave in a society where consistent skills to use technology, as well as foreign language skills ( especially English language, which has become almost an universal language) are essential tools for the success in life.

Nevertheless, the fact that digital environment could influence children behaviour, especially for that it keeps them away from real social interaction and it leads them into a world they perceived easier to control, is widely spread.

However, having in mind the interconnectivity demand of present society, excluding technology from children’s life – thus depriving them of an important type of socialization for their success – cannot be considered, but rather controlling their quantitative and qualitative access to digital technology. In other words, it is important to take control of what children do with digital technology. Well-managed by parents, digital technology may turn into a strong tool for learning.

From learning perspective, Healthing Eating Farm edugame has three major advantages: 1) it facilitates learning of basic English vocabulary; 2) it educates, develops and trains logical-mathematical skills; 3) it shapes and develops digital technology usage skills.

Through this type of games – with funny and modern layouts – especially if children play together with their parents, tablets and smart phones could turn into reliable learning partners for children – they socialize the children in strong relation to present realities and facilitate learning through play.
